Keith Kinkaid -- Thursday's starting goalie for the Devils -- was in net for that 4-3 victory.
In a 5-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers to start the season, the Devils played a solid possession game, limiting dangerous chances for the Oilers while pushing the pace on the offensive end.
To have a similar outcome against the Capitals, the Devils need to have the same type of play.
"Forwards did a really good job managing the puck.
They tracked really hard, so we got to get up," defenseman Mirco Mueller said.
"It was just all around a good team game.
We didn't give them too much.
